This is the looper in action.

The Portable Super-Looper is a raspberry pi set up to process audio and allow users to make loops. It is set up so that you can perform live while recording loops and continue to add and remove loops as wanted.

The parts you’ll need to make this project is:

  1. Raspberry pi 3b+
  2. Pisound soundcard
  3. 5″ touch screen
  4. Mouse and keyboard
  5. Musical instruments (optional)
  6. 1/4 cable and speaker
  7. A box to put it in
  8. Reaper (DAW software)

I only used two resources to get this up and running. The first one was a reaper forum with a template file to make super 8 looper easier to set up in reaper. https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=169085

The second Resource was a video showing how to set up Reaper to work on the raspberry pi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CteUMMMKC_8

Overall the project was really fun to work on. It gave me some challenges mostly in the form of glitches and drivers not working right away. Now that I’ve got it set up though it’s a really fun tool to have for recording loop based music without having to be at my computer at home.
