If I can do it, You can do it!
Have you ever wondered what is happening in or around your house? Well we have so I thought why not make a Raspberry PI Home Security Camera. At first I thought this is going to be so hard and stressful, well it was pretty fun and intriguing to say the least.
The first thing you should start with is the hardware and accessories. I bought my own kit from Amazon Prime called the Raspberry Pi 4.
The kit includes your SD card, the card reader, the HDMI cable, and on/off switch, heat sinks, and a fan. Most importantly and sold separately are the cameras. I chose to do three of them 2 USB cameras and one camera module.
There are so many accessories that can be purchased and of course I bought things from a tripod for the camera to a hard shell case for the whole kit
Then the software comes into play, this is where it was a little tricky but follow these instructions and you will figure it out. https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-security-camera/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YUM7jio6dk Just know the important steps are downloading Raspbian, 7Zip, and Motion Eye OS. Once you do that install the SD card and get your RPI 4 IP address and to the browser you go. Boom your cameras should automatically come up. I chose to do mostly snapshots, but you can also program it to take videos. I will be doing more of that the next time I do more with my Raspberry Pi Home Security Camera.
Here are a few snapshots that I found intriguing happening at my mothers house out of town. Yes, you can take your Pi anywhere, just have to find their IP address.
The two USB webcams that I bought took such good pictures.
In conclusion, I had a lot of fun doing this project. The Raspberry Pi 4 Home Security Camera is the way to go. I am very happy with the way it turned out and I did not spend that much money, a very inexpensive approach to home security.
