Books have become more portable than ever thanks to the creation of e-books. This reformatting allows a person to easily own a library full of books on one small and relatively thin device. There is however a small glitch to these miraculous e-readers and that would be the lack of how shareable the e-readers allow the e-books to be. A raspberry pi e-book server is just the solution to overcome this sharing conundrum by allowing access to these e-books from anywhere at any time by simply using a wifi connection and a raspberry pi. So, without further ado, let’s get started!

What You’ll Need:

  • Raspberry Pi 3 Kit
  • Calibre: (Free Download)
  • Mini Wifi Dongle: (optional)
  • Ethernet Cable: (optional)

What You Can Do

Using a Raspberry Pi 3 kit and the software Calibre, you will be able to create your own e-book server that allows you to easily share and access your e-book library from where ever you may be by using a wifi connection. This server will also allow for Nook and Kindle only books to be accessed by any device as well. So, no more having to swap between two different devices to keep up with different authors. This server will allow you to combine both e-readers libraries into one area that can then be accessed by any device that has an e-reading app.

My Thoughts

I loved the idea of this raspberry pi project because I have always been a big book worm and the thought of being able to combine the books on my Nook and Kindle onto one server was an idea that just blew my mind. Having a server that can hold every e-book I own makes sharing and using my e-books much easier and more convenient. Besides using this for personal reasons I also imagine this would be a great tool to use for school and possibly work for people such as teachers. Plus, I feel that this was a good novice level project for someone who is just learning how to use a raspberry pi. The tutorial was clear and concise about what is needed to be done to create this server and has plenty of pictures to reference while creating the e-book server. In general, I feel this project is a good one for people to dip their toe in what it means to work with a raspberry pi.
